Content

Content is all of the text and pictures which will be used on a web site.  The web site owner has the responsibility for providing the basic information required for content pages.  That doesn't mean that the owner has to provide the developer with HTML coded and formatted pages.  It just means that the owner must provide a reasonable amount of information and graphics.  It is the developers responsibility to sew all of the owner submitted information into a set of useable pages.

Printed brochures and catalogs are great sources of information for the developer.  Any videos or audios are also helpful.

The owner may also submit computer files containing information.  These files can be word processor documents, graphic images and database files.

The owner and the developer should have a clear understanding about how content is to be presented and whether or not the developer is to do any clean-up on submitted computer files.

Prior to starting work on inserting content into site pages, the developer and the owner should agree on a web site map.  The web site map is a layout of how the various content subjects are related and is the basis for the navigation structure of the web site.  See Navigation Design.
